Inclusion is the measurement of how included an individual feels in a given environment regardless of physical or mental traits or capabilities, respectively. Diversity is not only about how the people in a room look, but also how the people in a room think and how those thoughts are embedded into the culture of an organization. Diversity cannot exist, successfully, without building an inclusive environment, first. Equity, is a mechanism that ensures fair access to career opportunities, pay, and contributions to an organization by all internal and external stakeholders.
I view DEI a little differently having evolved myself over the last 20 years. DEI is never knowing a stranger. It is remembering a first name or giving someone an opportunity. DEI is not exclusive. It is not a means to make one group or population "superior" to another. DEI is the balance that allows every one a fair chance. It is the currency needed to buy into corporate, organizational and individual creativity, innovation, and growth.
